California Family Leave (CFRA) Rights
What Is CFRA?
The California Family Rights Act (CFRA) provides eligible employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year for qualifying reasons.
Eligibility
To qualify: you must have worked for a covered employer (5+ employees) for at least 12 months, you must have worked at least 1,250 hours in the 12 months before leave.
Qualifying Reasons
- Your own serious health condition
- Caring for a family member with a serious health condition
- Bonding with a new child (birth, adoption, or foster care)
- Qualifying military exigency
Job Protection
You must be restored to the same or a comparable position when you return. Your employer cannot retaliate against you for taking CFRA leave.
